Two men accused of second-degree murder appeared in this Vancouver provincial court hearing room.

A preliminary hearing for two men facing second-degree murder charges is underway in Vancouver provincial court.

The charges stem from a fatal stabbing in Vancouver’s waterfront Crab Park.

Andrew Wadden, a 45-year-old Vancouver resident, was stabbed May 7, 2022 just before 10:20 a.m, police said.

Police and emergency medical crews were later called and Wadden was found alive with life-threatening injuries. He later died at the scene.

Police initially charged Eric Gaon Kim in connection with the incident. Later, David Christian Bentil was also charged with second-degree murder.

Both appeared before Judge Ellen Gordon for the preliminary inquiry, sitting quietly in a secure prisoners' dock. Such hearings are held to determine if enough evidence exists to proceed to trial.

Evidence and submissions heard are covered by a publication ban in order not to taint a possible future jury should the accused elected that trial type.
