Vancouver police are asking for the public’s help in locating a vehicle involved in a hit and run early Friday morning that sent a woman to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Just before 1:30 a.m. a woman and her husband were crossing East 41st Avenue at Commercial Drive in a marked cross walk. Police media relations officer Const. Jason Doucette said the couple had the right of way. As they were crossing the street, they noticed an eastbound vehicle speeding towards them. The vehicle ran a red light and struck the woman before taking off toward Victoria Drive.

The 53-year-old Vancouver woman was rushed to hospital with life-threatening injuries. Her husband was not physically hurt.

Doucette said that based on evidence collected at the scene, investigators believe the vehicle they are looking for is likely a BMW SUV with obvious front-end damage, including a missing grill.

“Based on the information collected so far, there is no doubt the driver is aware they struck someone,” he said. “We have pieces of your vehicle. Do the right thing and contact the VPD immediately.”

Anyone who may have information about this incident, including the whereabouts of the vehicle, is asked to contact investigators at 604-717-3012 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
