Vancouver police are asking for witnesses or anyone with dash cam footage to come forward following a serious collision involving a cyclist and a Tesla.

The crash happened early Thursday morning in East Vancouver.

According to police, the cyclist was heading north on Rupert Street shortly after 12:30 a.m. on May 6 when he was hit by the motorist. The driver of the white Tesla was travelling east on Grandview Highway at the time of the crash.

The 20-year-old cyclist was taken to hospital for serious, but non-life-threatening injuries, police said, while the driver remained on scene and cooperated with police.

“Investigators do not believe speed, alcohol or drugs were factors in the collision,” added VPD Const. Tania Visintin in a release.

Anyone who witnessed the crash or captured dash cam footage related to the incident is encouraged to call VPD’s Collision Investigation Unit at 604-717-3012.
