Coquitlam RCMP arrested two men following a car-jacking Thursday night.

Two men are in custody following a carjacking late Thursday night in the Foster Avenue neighbourhood of Coquitlam when a woman was forced to exit her vehicle, reportedly at knife-point.

Coquitlam RCMP won’t confirm that a knife was used but say that the woman suffered minor injuries in incident and her vehicle, a Dodge SUV, was stolen.

“Two suspects have been arrested and remain in custody, and it is still under investigation,” said Const. Deanna Law.

Law said police received a call at approximately 11:45 p.m. Thursday night, in the area of Foster Avenue and Poirier Street, and were told that a woman had been robbed and forced out of her car. It took about 45 minutes to find the vehicle, with officers patrolling the area on foot and by car, she said.

The victim's vehicle was later found, along with the two males, in another Coquitlam location.

“They are arrested and they remain in custody and so the public is not at risk,” Const. Law said.

A press release has now been issued about the Coquitlam carjacking.

In a Facebook post, the wife of the man who called 911 said the victim, a young woman, was in her car in the parking lot of the tennis bubble when she was approached and forced out of her car at knife-point.

The woman ran from the scene and approached the woman's husband for assistance.

“She ran off and happened to be running on our street as my husband was coming home. Several police attended to help her and are searching the area for the suspect in the victims vehicle (a grey dodge suv). Very scary," the post stated.

Now that the vehicle has been found and the two men arrested, the woman told the Tri-City News that she and her husband “are just happy we were able to help the victim when she needed the help.”

A report of the incident has been shared on Facebook, raising concerns about women's safety.

"I live nearby and this is terrifying to read—hope the RCMP find out the background or motive for this," wrote Jessa Turner.

Recently, the RCMP came under fire for asking people to not share viral posts about white van abductions.

Some in the community remain on high alert after a Port Moody woman disappeared nearly two months ago from her Heritage Woods neighbourhood.
