Wildfire burning north of Pemberton reaches 500 hectares

The Xusum Creek fire, burning approximately 10 km northeast of D'Arcy and 35 km west of Lillooet, near Anderson Lake, now measures an estimated 500 hectares.

The out of control interface fire is about 25 per cent contained as of Sunday, according to the BC Wildfire Service.

Overnight resources utilized to fight the fire included three firefighters.

On Sunday, 64 firefighters, three helicopters and three pieces of heavy equipment were sent out to fight the blaze. An air tanker will move in to help if necessary, according to the wildfire service.

The fire was discovered on Wednesday, May 23.

The cause of the blaze has not been determined.

The Squamish Lillooet Regional District put an evacuation order in place for residents in the area.
