Burnaby RCMP are looking for dashcam video from Highway 1 near Kensington Avenue from the early-morning hours of Saturday, May 14. A 26-year-old woman was seriously injured after a two-car collision.

A 26-year-old woman was taken to hospital with “life-altering” injuries after being struck by a car on Highway 1 in the early morning hours.

Burnaby RCMP’s criminal collision investigation team is investigating the crash that happened just before 4 a.m. on Saturday, May 14.

RCMP officers came upon the scene of a two-vehicle crash at 3:59 a.m. this morning, east of the Kensington on-ramp, according to an RCMP media release.

Police say the driver of a black Acura CSX was travelling east on the Trans-Canada Highway, when the Acura struck a blue Audi A5 that had temporarily pulled over to park on the shoulder. The black Acura then struck a female passenger who had gotten out of the Audi and was standing on the roadway.

The 26-year-old woman was transported to hospital with “serious and potentially life-altering injuries,” according to police.

The driver of the black Acura remained on scene.

“Our investigators have spoken to the parties involved but are seeking any witnesses who may have observed the events leading up to the collision,” said Cpl. Alexa Hodgins of the Burnaby RCMP in the release. “We are also seeking drivers who were travelling on Highway 1 near Kensington Avenue that have dashcam footage.”

The collision team is looking at the circumstances of the crash and is determining whether speed, driver impairment and/or road conditions may have been potential factors.

Police are asking anyone who may have witnessed this collision, or who may have dashcam video taken while on Highway 1 near Kensington Avenue between 3:30 a.m. and 4:30 a.m., to contact the Burnaby RCMP at 604-646-9999.
