Friday, May 6

ALL THAT JAZZ

Heritage Woods Secondary (1300 David Ave., Port Moody) presents Chicago: Teen Edition on May 6 and 7 in the school theatre at 7:30 p.m. The show is directed by Jaime Maclean, a Grade 11 student at Heritage.

Saturday, May 7

PARADE DAY

Tuck into a pancake breakfast, served up by the 4th PoCo Scouts in The Outlet at Port Coquitlam’s Leigh Square, before the Port Coquitlam Rotary May Day Grand Parade begins at 11 a.m. The procession rolls from Shaughnessy to Elgin, Elgin to Mary Hill, Mary Hill to Hawthorne, and ending on Tyner Road. Road closures will be in effect. And stay in the downtown core afterward for the Party in the Square, which runs at Leigh Square from noon to 5 p.m.

HELLO FISHIES

Check out the activities at Noons Creek Hatchery (beside the Port Moody Recreation Complex, 300 Ioco Rd.), where from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. it will host a fingerling festival. Release salmon, see the exhibitors’ tables and enjoy a performance from the children’s entertainers Bobs and Lolo.

FOOD, GLORIOUS FOOD

Nosh to your heart’s content at the Coquitlam Community Block Party, where more than 20 food trucks will serve snacks, beverages and meals to visitors of Town Centre Park (1299 Pinetree Way, Coquitlam). The party, which includes entertainment and a marketplace, runs May 7 from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. and May 8 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

CHANTEZ!

Aux Cafés Jazz! is the title of Les Échos du Pacifique’s spring choral concert that starts at 7:30 p.m. at St. Laurence Anglican Church (825 St. Laurence St., Coquitlam). A francophone choir since 1973, Les Échos will sing tunes in English, French and Spanish as it “travels” (in spirit) to the jazz cafés in Paris, New York and Los Angeles.
