LAKE LOUISE — Rescuers in Alberta are set to resume their search today after a massive rockfall killed one and injured three in Banff National Park.

In a statement, Parks Canada said the search will include aircraft using infrared technology.

Also, a geotechnical engineer has been brought in to check the stability of the mountainside where the rockfall occurred.

The slide occurred in the early afternoon Thursday at Bow Glacier Falls on a popular hiking trail.

Video posted online appears to show a large shelf of stone crashing down a mountainside as hikers scurry to safety.

The area remains closed while the nearby Icefields Parkway that snakes through the national park is open intermittently to traffic.

This report by The Canadian Press was first published June 20, 2025.
