GLASGOW — Canadian international Alistair Johnston is expected to be out for three months after injuring his hamstring playing for Glasgow Celtic.

The 26-year-old fullback/wingback from Aurora, Ont., was carried off on a stretcher during Celtic’s 0-0 home draw with Kazakhstan's Kairat Almaty in the Champions League playoffs Wednesday.

"It's not great. He'll probably be (out) about 12 weeks," Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers said Friday.

"It's disappointing for him because he's come back and started (the season) well," he added.

Johnston has won 56 caps for Canada, including 50 starts, and become a mainstay of the team under coach Jesse Marsch.

The 28th-ranked Canadian men play No. 48 Romania in Bucharest on Sept. 5, and No. 31 Wales in Swansea on Sept. 9.
