Burnaby residents angry over kids delivering ‘grotesque’ anti-abortion flyers

Burnaby residents say children shouldn't be used this way

More Burnaby homes are receiving what some residents call “disgusting” and “offensively graphic” flyers, but it’s the people who are delivering them that also has people upset.

Namely, children.

Terri G. wrote the NOW upset about catching a person who “looked 14” on her property delivering flyers that include graphic images of aborted fetuses.

“For one thing, they are trespassing,” said Terri, who lives in North Burnaby. “It’s sick that they are getting children to drop off these disgusting and offensively graphic materials. Be an adult about it and do it yourself. I told this kid to get off my property and to tell the adults to stop this behaviour.”

Multiple local residents have spoken to the NOW in the last two years about having these flyers left in their mailboxes where their own children could discover them.

But more people are speaking out about the fact that kids are being used to deliver them.

“A 12-year-old just put this insanely graphic anti-abortion flyer in my mailbox and ran off as I approached, perhaps thinking I might teach them new cuss words if I’d have retrieved and processed it while they were within earshot,” tweeted Bob Kronbauer,  publisher of Vancouver Is Awesome, a Glacier Media publication. “I wouldn’t; this is on the parents. Shame on them. Call me crazy but I don't believe getting your children to deliver unsolicited traumatizing gore to people at dinner time is an effective way to bring them on side with your religious cause.”

The flyers are delivered in a way that the material isn’t sealed up, so kids could be exposed to these images if they get to the mailbox before their parents.

“This stuff is grotesque,” said Mary-Anne, a North Burnaby resident who didn’t want her last name used. “They came right onto my property and leave this stuff where my kids could find it. I don’t want these folks on my property to do this.”

I previously wrote about a Burnaby father of two children actually who actually photographed the material and emailed it.

Right after his children saw it.

“My kids went to get my neighbours mail as they were away,” Dustin said. “I found our 7 and 4 year olds sitting on my neighbour’s front lawn looking at that disgusting anti-abortion pamphlet. My 4-year-old ran to his room screaming. I phoned the RCMP and they said they would call the company to suggest they don’t distribute them that way. They didn’t care to find the person distributing them.”
I’ve included a photo above of one of the images because some readers said they wanted more "proof," but I have blurred out the more disgusting parts of it.

People have a right to print up flyers like this, but I don’t feel they have the right to step on private property and inflict this on people.
