Dear Editor,

The end of one year and the start of the next is always a time to reflect.

After the year that it’s been, reflection this year is different than most.

To say it’s been a year marked by challenges would be an understatement.

However, it’s also been a year marked by humanity. In the face of a common challenge, we have come together as a community to play an active role to help overcome it.

People have shown support for our local health care heroes by following public health orders, saluting the front lines each night from their balconies and actively making donations in support of Richmond Hospital Foundation‘s COVID-19 Response Fund and Surgical Restart Campaign, along with other important health initiatives.

The kindness people have shown at this time of heartache and hardship for so many shows that the joy of giving can be felt even in the most difficult of times.

As we look ahead to 2021, we still have challenges ahead, but there is light at the end of the tunnel.

While the pandemic will eventually end, let the spirit of togetherness remain.
