Opinion: Not everyone in Vancouver excited by idea of amalgamation: poll

Our readers appear to want the city to stay solo

Vancouver is Awesome readers were against the idea of amalgamation 2-to-1.

While there's growing support for Metro Vancouver amalgamating there are some demographics that aren't as excited.

In a poll Vancouver is Awesome ran last week, readers voted two-to-one against the idea of amalgamating with the surrounding municipalities. This runs counter to a recent poll by Research Co. done with likely voters in the upcoming municipal election.

V.I.A. polled 683 readers and asked the question: Would you support the amalgamation of Metro Vancouver?

The poll ran from 6/19/2022 to 6/23/2022. Of the 683 votes, we can determine that 384 are from within the community. The full results are as follows:

Yes, all of Metro Vancouver should be one 32.55 % local, 32.80 % total
No, each municipality should stay independent 67.45 % local, 67.20 % total
  Local   Total

Results are based on an online study of adult Vancouver Is Awesome readers that are located in Vancouver. The margin of error - which measures sample variability - is +/- 3.75%, 19 times out of 20.

Vancouver Is Awesome uses a variety of techniques to capture data, detect and prevent fraudulent votes, detect and prevent robots, and filter out non-local and duplicate votes.
