OPINION: Here are 9 reasons why Ryan Reynolds is the king of Christmas

It's December! That means it's time to dust off the ornaments, hang the stocking and wait by the fire in anticipation; the big guy will definitely be bringing you something awesome. What it is, only he knows.

It's December! That means it's time to dust off the ornaments, hang the stocking and wait by the fire in anticipation; the big guy will definitely be bringing you something awesome. What it is, only he knows.

And by "the big guy" of course I mean Ryan Reynolds. Arguably Canada's biggest Hollywood star, every year around this time he delivers something great for everyone through some form of media.

You might argue that Jesus, John Lennon, Santa, or Krampus are the reigning champs of this holiday. And you would be wrong in that argument. I mean what have any of those guys even done recently?

Below are 9 reasons why Ryan Reynolds is the king of Christmas.

1. He has this painting of his Vancouver home, with a Christmas tree in the window

This year Reynolds shared the story of a painting his wife, Blake Lively, commissioned Danny Galieote to paint for him. It shows his childhood home in Vancouver, with a Christmas tree in the window (because he is the king of Christmas). His first job was delivering the Vancouver Sun newspaper, which is more reason to love him but unrelated to the exercise at hand.

2. He wears Christmas sweaters

Maybe you remember in 2018 when he wore a Christmas sweater to a holiday gathering with his pals, Hugh Jackman and Jake Gyllenhaal? You'll notice the other two aren't wearing sweaters. That's because they're not the king of Christmas.

3. He gives great gifts

This year he told his friend Hugh Jackman he was getting him "a friend" for Christmas.

4. He starred in a Christmas classic

I don't know about you, but the 2005 film Just Friends is a must-watch seasonal classic in my home. In it, Reynolds plays a celebrity who goes home to his small hometown over the holidays, chasing his high school crush. My wife and I have been watching this film every year for more than a decade. You should too.

5. He released a Christmas-themed Deadpool movie

Okay, so Once Upon a Deadpool was just basically a re-cut PG-13 version of the R-rated Deadpool 2 with some Christmas "bonus scenes", but it shows a continued dedication to the holiday that is yet unmatched.

6. He's got famous Christmas-related friends

7. He's competitive about Christmas

While speaking with Ellen DeGeneres he let it be known that he'd like to "create a [Christmas decorating] competition" at some point with his next door neighbour, Martha Stewart.

8. He's starring in the next adaptation of A Christmas Carol

Ryan and his pal Will Ferrell will be starring in a musical adaptation of Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol, recently picked up by Apple. Honestly. Casting details have yet to be released but if Reynolds doesn't play Bob Cracthit I will eat my Santa hat.

9. He hangs with other stars who have been in adaptations of A Christmas Carol

Reynolds and his wife posed for photos with Mickey Mouse dressed in a Santa Claus outfit. Because that's what the king of Christmas does.
