If you’ve ever received a traffic ticket, what’s the most you’ve ever been fined?

I haven’t had a ticket in years so I honestly don’t remember, but I think maybe it was $75. That’s chump change compared to one terrible driver in Burnaby.

On Saturday, August 15, officers with Burnaby RCMP’s traffic enforcement unit partnered with Passenger Transportation Officers for some safety checks.

Except that one of the drivers didn’t want to comply and didn’t stop for the officers (seriously?). When police finally stopped the vehicle, they ended up handing the driver six tickets for various infractions totalling a whopping $2,238.

Does this make this driver the worst in Burnaby? Well, it’s pretty close.

This follows Burnaby RCMP partnering with the City of Burnaby and the New Westminster Police Department to target large commercial vehicles travelling on residential streets “not designed to handle vehicles of their size, presenting a hazard to other motorists and residents,” according to a police tweet.

They stopped 26 trucks that were in violation, conducted inspections and found 13 – that’s half – to be unfit for the road so they were impounded.

Traffic officers in the past couple of days also teamed up with Transit Police for a sting targeting distracted driving using cell phones.

They handed out 24 cell phone-related tickets and issued 61 tickets in total in just three hours for such infractions as not wearing a seat belt, vehicle defects and more.
