SHERBROOKE — Police in Sherbrooke, Que. say a 33-year-old woman was found dead in a residence and her partner is under arrest and will face charges.

Police say the woman's body was found in a home on Friday evening in the eastern part of the city, about 130 kilometres east of Montreal.

Officers had been sent to the home to conduct a wellness check after relatives said they had not heard from her.

Sherbrooke police spokesman Martin Carrier says the woman's new partner, a 28-year-old man, was arrested at the scene.

Carrier wouldn't speculate on how the death occurred but says investigators believe it was a homicide.

Police and crime scene technicians were expected to be on site for much of the day gathering evidence and meeting with witnesses.
