Beautiful off-the-grid B.C. oceanfront eco-resort selling for $3.5 million

It features glamping tents, stunning views of Clayquot sound and a barrel sauna

After opening in 2023, a B.C. nature-based retreat centre is up for sale, and it doesn't cost much more than the average house in Vancouver.

The Cedar Coast Centre is selling for $3.45 million according to a listing on REW, about the same as a 100-year-old tear-down in Vancouver's Hastings-Sunrise neighbourhood.

However, the sustainable, off-the-grid ecologically minded retreat has a few features not found on a corner lot in Vancouver.

Located on Vargas Island, a short boat ride from Tofino, it has 600 feet of shoreline on the very edge of North America, with views of the entrance to Clayoquot Sound.

The 44-acre plot has a lodge, staff cabins, and nine luxury tents for glamping; each has a bed and six have en suite bathrooms.

The lodge is a multipurpose building, with everything from offices to a gym to a commercial kitchen. Since it operated educational programs, rooms were set up as a classroom, library, and field lab.

While most of the land is covered by forest, the rocky shoreline has enough space for a huge deck with a barrel hot tub and sauna.

There are also gardens, a workshop, and a shower house.

The Cedar Coast Centre opened in 2023. Before that, it was connected to the Cedar Coast Field Station, a not-for-profit operating in the area. Both were founded by Simon Nessman, who balanced his time between Cedar Coast and modelling around the world.

The lodge was actually nearly something completely different.

"The main lodge was originally constructed as a wartime museum, and left unfinished from 1996 until 2018 when I purchased the property and completed the build," Nessman tells V.I.A.
