Photos: Private island in lake on Vancouver Island going for $1.5M

A private island in a lake on an island in B.C. is selling for the same price as the cheapest single-family houses in Vancouver.

To be fair, the island is in Cowichan Lake, one of the larger lakes on Vancouver Island, which itself is one of the largest islands in the world (43rd).

The little island, though, is not so big. Simply called Island 7, it's about 2.25 acres of forest in the middle of Cowichan Lake. Tucked in that forest is a house and a few other small structures.

And that property is selling for $1.495 million.

Altogether, the property can sleep 10, according to the listing. The main structure, a west coast-style house, is kept fairly private by the forest and the general lack of neighbours (the nearest one is on another island 500 metres away).

The island is off the grid for the most part, though it does get cell service. It does have its own infrastructure, including a generator shed and a workshop (which has a view of the lake). There's also a recently redone dock and private beaches to hang out at.

The lake is about 31 kilometres long, and the island is closer to the eastern end. The closest community is Youbou, though the lake's main town, Lake Cowichan, is not much further.
