Photos: Entire private island off B.C. coast selling for $6 million

It includes two houses...but you'll need to supply the boat.

A unique property about 150 km northwest of Vancouver has gone on the market: Tan Island.

The 40-acre island is located inside Gorge Harbour, the well-protected harbour at Cortes Island; both islands are part of the Discovery Island archipelago east of Campbell River.

Tan Island is selling for $6 million.

That includes five different properties with two houses, three guest cabins, and other amenities, like a fish cabin, laundry cabin, and workshop.

The two main residences are designed to fit into the forest on Tan Island. One was built in 1979 and the second in 1996. Both are connected to BC Hydro's system (so the island is on the grid), but water for those living on the island comes from drilled wells.

Given the setup on the island, it could be used as a permanent residence or a recreational retreat.

However, whoever buys it will need their own boat. While Cortes Island is included in BC Ferries' services, Tan Island isn't (though the short hop to Cortes could be done via Kayak or rowboat in fair weather).
