The Kids Are Alright.

Vancouver is awesome and it has been for a while. Celebrate Vancouver's heritage at a unique event being put on by the Heritage Vancouver Society entitled Heritage and the Arts at the Page Building, 330 Pender Street. Join building owner and evening host Eric Cohen for a brief history of the 1907(!) Vancouver gem and see firsthand the original architectural features he is painstakingly restoring.

The opportunity to experience this beautiful building will be made even more memorable by an array of live performances and appearances from Vancouver’s Kick Evrything (a mixture of synth-drenched fuzz rock and acoustic folk), a special presentation from internationally-renowned artist Brendan Lee Satish Tang (his ceramic series of work amalgamates Ming Dynasty-style porcelain with Japanese anime and manga) and the conceptual work of artist Germaine Koh, among others.

Especially cool will be the chance to screen a selection of short historical films chronicling downtown Vancouver in a neo-classical heritage building. Lovingly curated by both The Celluloid Social Club and Superdelux and narrated by local actor Mackenzie Grey, the evening's bill includes Stan Fox’s In the Daytime (1940), Larry Kent’s Hastings Street (1962), Giada Dobrzenska & Tara Hungerford’s Mon Amour Mon Parapluie (featuring Douglas Coupland and William Gibson), Mike Jackson and Peter New’s The Bar (featuring Peter Deluise), and the Vancouver Historical Society’s City Reflections (1907–2007).
