If you've been down to the Olympic Village recently you may have noticed the beginnings of a new permanent pier located just East of the Aquabus terminal. Today it was announced that it's actually going to be a new paddling centre and the founding sponsor of the Dragon Boat Festival, Concord Pacific, is largely to thank for it; they literally dropped a $1,000,000 cheque off with the city today to help pay for it. Below is a rendering of what it'll look like when it's complete at the end of this year.
Of the donation which will cover about a large portion of the budget for the centre, Concord Pacific's Senior Vice-President of Development, Peter Webb, said that "New paddle docks and a future paddle centre will ensure a future for dragon boat and other sports here in downtown Vancouver, on False Creek. We are proud to contribute to this world class city and look forward to continuing this neighbourhood here on the waters of False Creek."
