This Nutrition Month, BC Dairy Association is shining a spotlight on the province’s registered dietitians in honour of Dietitians Day on March 17th.
Registered dietitians work to help promote health and wellness in communities all across B.C. For over 40 years, the registered dietitians of BC Dairy Association have been developing nutrition education materials and programs for teachers, health professionals, and families to help people improve their knowledge of nutrition and eat well.
“I am honoured to get to work for dairy farmers every day as a health professional. Their support for in-school nutrition education programs and resources for health professionals makes a huge impact on the health of our communities,” says Joel Barohn, Registered Dietitian and Nutrition Educator at BC Dairy Association.
There are many benefits to eating together, including better nutrition, better school performance, and better social adjustment for everyone involved: kids, youth and adults.
Believing that how you eat is just as important as what you eat, BC Dairy’s dietitians developed Better Together to encourage cooking meals at home and eating together. The resource guide offers fun recipes and even a DIY cookbook to support healthy eating and celebrating cultural traditions.
Your dietary calcium intake can predict how well you are eating overall. That said, most people in B.C. don’t get enough calcium.
Developed by the dietitians at BC Dairy, the Calcium Calculator™ is a tool designed to help people assess their calcium requirements and improve their calcium intake in their diets. The free mobile app is available in the App Store and Google Play.
