With the app store boasting a seemingly never-ending list of specialty dating apps, the idea of meeting someone new is starting to feel more overwhelming than ever before. Fortunately, there are still plenty of super fun ways to meet, attract and befriend new people in Vancouver; you just have to go back-to-basics to make it happen.

Here’s why you should drop the phone and opt for some real life events and adventures instead. Remember, finding love won’t happen without YOU taking the first step!

1. You need to step out of your comfort zone (just a bit)

The world’s greatest love stories don’t start with semi-anonymous instant messages. If you’re looking for a real connection, you’ve got to put yourself out there! If you’re shy or find one-on-one interactions intimidating, consider going out with a group. Group activities take the pressure off awkward small talk, allowing each of you to drop your guard and focus on having fun.

2. You need to have fun

The truth is, YOU are more attractive when you’re relaxed and having fun. Sure, apps are “low key”, but they’re not exactly a good time. Instead of texting all night, keep things light and agree on a fun activity to experience together. There’s no time to be self-conscious when you’re busy having fun.

3. You need to have meaningful conversations

“Hey, how are you?”

Then what?! There’s nothing worse than staring at a blank screen, just begging your brain to come up with something interesting to say. Real life interactions allow things to flow. Ask questions and really listen to the answers.  You will learn more about the people you are with, and it takes away that nervous “I have to be entertaining” feeling.
