For some, a rainy long weekend can be a bit of a downer, but we see it as the perfect chance to curl up on the couch and catch up on some of the great TV we missed over the summer.

Even if the sun makes an appearance, the Labour Day long weekend is the perfect time to relax and recharge as we head into the crazy back-to-school/work season.

If you’re looking forward to some quality downtime this weekend, here are a few blockbusters and binge-worthy series to check out while you veg out.

civil-warWhose side are you on?

The biggest movie of the year is available On Demand this weekend (if you’re a TELUS customer that is). Weeks before it will be available for rent or purchase on Blu-ray, you can buy Captain America: Civil War on Optik TV. After an incident involving the Avengers results in collateral damage, political pressure forces government oversight of the team’s activities. The Avengers disagree on what course to take, resulting in a divide – one side led by Captain America and the other following Iron Man. With Own on Optik, you can get in on the action and pick a side before your friends do.

narcosDrug drama

The highly anticipated second season of the critically acclaimed Netflix drama is back! Season 2 of Narcos goes live on Netflix today (it’s like they knew it would rain). Get a look inside the infamous Medellin drug cartel and into the life of the notorious drug lord Pablo Escobar as DEA agent Steve Murphy joins the war on drugs and takes on the wealthiest criminal in history. If you missed Season 1, you only have ten hours to catch up on – piece of cake on a long weekend!

james-bondShaken, not stirred

Whether your Bond is Sean Connery, Roger Moore, Pierce Brosnan or Daniel Craig (anyone but Timothy Dalton, really), the Movie Network is offering every (yes, every) James Bond film on-demand this weekend leading to the premiere of Spectre on Sunday night. From Dr. No to Skyfall, you can catch up on the classics before watching Daniel Craig take on the sinister Christoph Waltz.

the-night-ofDid he do it?

The critically acclaimed HBO drama The Night Of (which scored 95% on Rotten Tomatoes) wrapped up last weekend, which means you can binge the entire eight-episode miniseries in one sitting (or maybe two). A probing contemporary look at crime, the presumption of guilt and the urban prison system, The Night Of delves into a complex New York City murder case with compelling cultural and political overtones. Written by Oscar-winning Schindler’s List writer Steven Zaillian, the show features a stellar performance by stalwart actor John Tuturo, and a sneak peek at actor Riz Ahmed before he stars in the upcoming Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.

TELUS’ Own on Optik allows Optik TV customers to own and watch select blockbuster movies weeks before they’re available to rent or for Blu-ray purchase. For $25 (or less), TELUS customers can get the most popular movies before any of their friends - bragging rights, anyone? Stay tuned for upcoming megahits like X-Men: Apocalypse, Legend of Tarzan, Ghostbusters, Jason Bourne and Finding Dory.

With Own on Optik, you can build a digital library of your favourite movies and watch them as many times as you want on Optik TV, from the comfort of your own home. For more information, visit telus.com/ondemand.
