New year, same goals...

Every January, thousands of Vancouverites set their intentions to live the happiest, healthiest year of their lives. We love the enthusiasm, but for many of us, it’s easy to get caught up in the stress of life until, before you know it, December rolls around again and we start making the same goals for next year...

New Year’s Resolutions can be tough, so we’ve partnered with Heineken 0.0 to help you tweak, reflect and change up how you approach health and happiness in 2019. Trust us, you already have the strength to achieve your goals, you might just need to change your strategy.

Focus on abundance, not deprivation

Diets are usually focused on either what you can’t have or what’s been deemed “bad for you”. This year, focus on abundance. Healthy living is all about fuelling your mind and body with things that make you feel AWESOME, whether that’s meditation or that roasted cauliflower dish you absolutely love (which also just so happens to be healthy). Don’t spend your time worrying about what you can’t have - instead focus on all the great things you can start incorporating into this new year and your new healthy lifestyle.

Find positive ways to hold yourself accountable

Accountability isn’t the most fun concept to usher into your new lifestyle, but it sure is important. Whatever your health and wellness goals are, find a way to hold yourself accountable. Maybe that’s making a fitness pact with friends, spending some hard-earned cash on a gym membership or even letting your family know you’re trying to get fit. It’s not about added pressure, it’s about being honest about what you really want to achieve and owning your achievements along the way!

Don’t fall for trends!

Any diet plan or fitness program that claims it can solve all your health problems quickly or easily should be taken with a grain of salt. It’s true, there are simple things you can do that will make you feel better right away, but trends usually just offer quick results without lasting impact. Achieving your health goals this year is going to take a lot of work. In fact, it’s going to be super tough, but that’s why when you do it, you’re going to be a stronger, happier, healthier version of yourself. YOU CAN DO IT!

Set clear goals, like, really clear

We’d all like to be healthier, but what does that actually mean? This year, we encourage you to set some goals and really think about why you want to achieve them. Maybe it’s less about a number on the scale and more about a feeling. Maybe it’s just about being able to enjoy your favourite foods without that horrible guilty feeling that follows. If you really want a shot at 2019 being your year, consider writing your goals down or making a vision board to serve as a positive reminder of what you want and what’s possible in 2019.

Cut out the bad stuff, without cutting out your favourite stuff

Don’t let the stress of being healthy stop the fun. The truth is, you’re going to deviate from your plan - but fortunately everything is fine in moderation. The key is just being honest with yourself about just how moderate you’re really being. And luckily for those days you are dreaming of a special treat, there are some things you won’t have to say goodbye to in 2019...

Heineken 0.0 is a new non-alcoholic beer from the world’s favourite brewer. Twice brewed and fermented with Heineken's unique A-yeast from natural ingredients, Heineken 0.0 achieves a fruity flavour and slight malty notes with only 0.03% alcohol (as much as a ripe piece of fruit!) and 69 calories per bottle. Hey, if 2019 is going to be your year, you’re going to need something to say “cheers” with. Heineken 0.0 is an awesome way to have your beer and drink it too.

Remember, just because you haven’t achieved your New Year’s Resolutions before doesn’t mean 2019 can’t be your year.
