The Vancouver Chamber Choir is a vibrant part of Vancouver’s cultural scene. As Canada’s longest-running professional choir, this award-winning ensemble has been shaping the choral music landscape for decades.

Far from being stuck in the past, the choir is embracing a bold and innovative future, creating music that truly moves audiences.

A legacy built on excellence, with a fresh twist

Founded over 40 years ago, the Vancouver Chamber Choir is an internationally recognized leader in choral music. Awarded the prestigious Margaret Hillis Award for Choral Excellence by Chorus America, the choir has performed in more than 4,000 concerts worldwide, released 36 recordings and premiered 334 new works by 145 Canadian composers.

The choir’s deep connection to Canadian music and talent makes it a true gem in the national arts community.

What really sets this choir apart isn’t just their technical brilliance—it’s their ability to unite people through emotionally charged and powerful performances.

Whether performing a beloved classic or showcasing a thought-provoking contemporary composition, each performance is an opportunity to feel connected to something larger than yourself.

Playing soon

On May 9, 2025, the Vancouver Chamber Choir presents; Fresh Ink, an inspiring concert featuring the voices of today’s most exciting composers.

You’ll experience new music by composers like Matthew Whittall, Laura Hawley, Tawnie Olson, Alex Freeman and many more.

The program blends fresh, contemporary works with significant pieces from the past, creating a powerful and thought-provoking experience. It’s a chance to hear how modern composers are using music to tell important stories and inspire meaningful change.

The grand finale

Don’t miss out on the grand finale, Sonnets by the Sea, at the stunning Granville Island Stage!

The Vancouver Chamber Choir is teaming up with Bard on the Beach founder and artistic director, Christopher Gaze, who will bring Shakespeare’s iconic words to life.

With beautiful music by Ralph Vaughan Williams and Frank Martin, all paired with Shakespeare’s timeless text, this is a performance you absolutely have to see.

“Shakespeare's texts are so musical in themselves,” says Artistic Director Kari Turunen, “that composers, no matter when they lived or their style, seem to feed off the beauty of the language. For people who know Shakespeare well, the music adds new meaning and feeling to the words. For those less familiar, this is a great way to discover some of the most beautiful writing in English.”
