Are you looking for a calm winter spent amongst snow-kissed mountains, stunning ocean viewpoints, and lush forest landscapes?

Winter is the ideal time to get away from the city and discover a world of roaming, relaxation, and reconnecting. What better way to spend it than on a stretch of paradise tucked into the southwest corner of mainland British Columbia?

Winter wonderland is closer than you think

Although winters are milder than in other areas of Canada, there's still plenty of snow to play in up in the mountains!

Visitors to the Powell River region can enjoy the snow along the higher elevations of the Sunshine Coast Trail, such as Tin Hat Mountain, or in the Knuckleheads.

On the southern Sunshine Coast, snow lovers can enjoy the Dakota Ridge winter recreation area, which boasts 20km of groomed nordic ski trails and 7km of snowshoe trails. Alpha Adventures offers shuttle services, tours, lessons, and equipment rentals.

There's truly something for everyone with snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, winter hiking, sledding, and spectacular views.

Stay busy with activities that shine

The Sunshine Coast is home to one of the largest populations of artists per capita in Canada, with quality art galleries, studios, museums, festivals, music events, and culture.

In early March, grab tickets and a popcorn for the Powell River Film Festival held at the historic Patricia Theatre. This year's lineup includes blockbusters and Academy Award nominated films along with short films and documentaries from local BC filmmakers.

Hoping to explore the trails while you’re there? Cliff Gilker Park is a popular gathering place for families, walkers, photographers, and naturalists. Douglas Fir and Red Cedar trees surround the well-maintained trails, and there are beautiful waterfalls to marvel at.

Another great (and potentially romantic?) spot to take in the sights is at Valentine Mountain. Enjoy panoramic views of Powell River, including Townsite, the mill, the Hulks, lakes, ocean, mountains, and beyond.

Cozy winter moments

There are plenty of ways to warm up on the Sunshine Coast. Snuggle up after your snowy adventure with locally roasted coffee, freshly baked goodies and sweet treats from local cafes, or fill up on a hot meal at one of many amazing restaurants. Sunshine Coast chefs take pride in supplying fresh, local ingredients prepared with flair.

Find more cozy vibes by booking a peaceful cabin or room, enjoying a relaxing spa treatment (or two), or making dinner reservations with friends. Moments of comfort also come from being immersed in nature, surrounded by the rainforest, and attuned to the tranquility of the moment.

The best of both worlds

Whether you're an outdoor enthusiast or prefer the cozy comforts indoors, there are tons of great activities to enjoy on the coast this winter. Come soak up everything the Sunshine Coast has to offer, from sunlight bouncing off fresh snow to irreplaceable memories with loved ones and all the rosy-cheeked laughter in between.
