When you move into one of Tapestry’s retirement communities, a serene yet vibrant and walkable neighbourhood awaits.

The two stunning Vancouver locations – Tapestry at Wesbrook Village and Tapestry at Arbutus Walk – are both situated in quiet neighbourhoods, surrounded by greenery and walking trails, and with easy access to all the amenities one could need.

Tapestry at Wesbrook Village is in the largest of six neighbourhoods at the University of British Columbia. The beautifully appointed Tapestry building, which features light wood finishings and plenty of windows to let in natural light and views of nature, was one of the first to be built in this planned community.

There are many amenities nearby including shopping, services and recreation, and outdoor adventure is just steps from the front door. An added bonus is that the community is surrounded by forest and close to nature, including Pacific Spirit Regional Park and beaches—opportunities for walking and hiking abound.

Just ask Hanno, who moved into Tapestry six years ago after breaking her arm and struggling to live on her own. The beautiful location made it easy to experience the forest she had enjoyed walking in for close to 60 years.Today, Hanno walks nearly five kilometres several times a week. “I walk rain or shine, and that’s how I got to know my beautiful forest,” she says.

Something else that brings Hanno joy every day is Tapestry’s seventh floor garden. “I just love being in nature, getting my hands dirty and feeling the wonder of the environment. You go out and you suddenly see the swelling of the buds, and that's enough to make your day wonderful,” she says.

Tapestry at Arbutus Village is a beautiful and intimate community located in the heart of Kitsilano, where many shops, restaurants and services are within a four-block radius. People can easily walk and engage with nature in this neighbourhood, and the popular Arbutus Greenway walking and cycling path is only two blocks away.

The community also features a bright and airy 8th floor patio that overlooks the incredible views of Jericho and Kitsilano beaches, where residents can host events or just relax, enjoy the sun, practice their putting or read a book.

With the original opening of Arbutus Walk, Tapestry established a modern template for independent living for seniors based on a model of hospitality, for which it received an award from the Canadian Home Builders’ Association, in part for redefining seniors’ living by offering residents lifestyle choices tailored to their individual needs and preferences.

For Gerry, moving to Tapestry meant he could live in an established neighbourhood where he already had deep roots, having grown up in the area. Being able to step outside his door to enjoy nature while taking his dog for a walk on shaded trails was also a deciding factor in choosing to live there.

While Tapestry residents live independently in beautifully appointed suites featuring full kitchens, they can choose from a wide range of planned activities, programs, and events, from art and fitness classes to social gatherings, seminars and guest speakers. They can participate as much or as little as they like, following their own interests and discovering new ones along the way.

Living at Tapestry, Gerry has many diverse interests and hobbies and enjoys the choice and flexibility to do what he wants – when he wants. Gerry, who recently celebrated his 94th birthday surrounded by friends and family, focuses on walking three kilometers each day and is committed to keeping himself as healthy and well as possible, with the support of Tapestry’s employees and fellow residents. “One of the big things with Tapestry is they offer you a lot of opportunities to be happy,” Gerry says.
