COVID-19 fallout is forcing BC Ferries to cancel sailings that were originally planned as additions to regular sailings in the usually popular April travel period.
Routes affected are those linking Metro Vancouver to Vancouver Island, Metro Vancouver to the Sunshine Coast and Metro Vancouver to the Southern Gulf Islands.
BC Ferries said the cancellations will allow the corporation to continue to provide essential links to coastal communities and save resources for when ferry traffic resumes. So far, ferry traffic has dropped 40 per cent in response to COVID-19.
Travellers who had made reservations on cancelled sailings linking Tsawwassen-Southern Gulf Islands will be refunded.
Those who reserved on additional sailing times for Tsawwassen-Swartz Bay, Horseshoe Bay-Departure Bay, and Horseshoe Bay-Langdale will be contacted by BC Ferries and their reservations moved to the next available sailing.
