Travel + Leisure Magazine has compiled a list of the top 100 hotels in the world and one B.C. accommodation was included in the roundup.

The ranking is based on the travel magazine's World's Best Awards survey, which was open for voting from Jan. 11 through May 10, 2021. Readers reflected on what they feel are the top travel accommodations around the world. The top picks include everything from city skyscrapers to jungle glamping, palace resorts to luxe safari lodges and seaside hideaways.

India made the strongest showing of any single country, with a total of 12 properties.

Located on Vancouver Island in Tofino, the Wickaninnish Inn wows visitors from the rugged coastline with its awe-inspiring views of crashing ocean waves. Report authors note that the stunning property is situated on a cliff above the "churning Pacific ocean," which makes it an ideal spot for weather-watching. The accommodation also provides guests with rain gear and binoculars so that they can venture out prepared for stormy weather adventures.

The Wickaninnish came in at number 80 on the global ranking, but it wasn't alone. The Waldorf Astoria Maldives Ithaafushi tied the B.C. gem.

The Waldorf Astoria Maldives Ithaafushi was praised for its 119 villas, some of which are located directly over the water, while others are on the beach. "All have private pools and epic sea views."

Another Canadian hotel made the list, too. Located in North Hatley, Quebec, Manoir Hovey was ranked 23rd on the list. Report authors note that the pristine rooms and suites are Housed inside a 19th-century mansion modelled after George Washington's Mount Vernon. "Well-placed antiques, rich textiles, and curated art give the hotel an elegant country vibe."

Hotels were rated on their facilities, location, service, food, and overall value.
