Metro Vancouver locals can fly from Abbotsford to the YYZ airport in Toronto with Swoop Airlines as part of a sale. Montego Bay, Jamaica is also on sale.

Metro Vancouverites looking to travel back east in the new year have several low-cost options as part of a one-day sale.

Swoop, WestJet's discount carrier, offers 50 per cent off base fares as part of its weekly "Flyday" sale on Fridays. Each week, the carrier chooses select destinations and offers 400 redemptions of the offer.

This week, residents of the Lower Mainland can enjoy discounted airfare between Vancouver and Toronto. The sale applies to travel between Jan. 11, 2023, and Feb. 28, 2023, the blackout dates are from Feb. 16 to Feb. 21.

Take advantage of the sale by entering the promotional code "FLYDAY." The sale ends at 10:59 p.m. Friday (Dec. 16) night.

For example, a one-way ticket from Abbotsford International Airport (YXX) to Lester B. Pearson International Airport (YYZ) departs on Jan. 18, 2023, and costs an ultra-low price of $48.99. With the discount, however, locals will get 50 per cent off the base fare of this price. The base fare of the flight is $35.59 and 50 per cent of it is roughly $17.80. When this amount is subtracted from the original price, the total works out to $31.19 with all taxes and fees.

Other enticing deals in this week's sale include 30 per cent off base fares from Toronto to Montego Bay, Jamaica as well as Varadero, Cuba. While these tickets don't originate in the Lower Mainland they may reduce the cost of a trip to one of these tropical destinations, as many flights ticketed out of Vancouver can cost exorbitant amounts. There are typically numerous deals to the Caribbean out of Toronto and Montreal.

Locals who live outside of Abbotsford and don't want to drive down, pay for a costly cab, or bother a loved one can take advantage of a bus that travels from Metro Vancouver to the airport called Ebus. A one-way transfer costs about $46.82.
