How does a visit to Madrid sound for later this year?

Flights from Vancouver to Spain are a steal for trips in the late summer and fall.

Round-trip flight options cost even less toward the end of August, with several date combinations showing tickets just over $900, according to Google Flight's price calendar.

But travellers looking to save more money and face fewer crowds will want to wait for September.

Prices on flights from Vancouver to Spain drop by several hundred

Prices drop down hundreds of dollars, even from the cheapest options in August, on nearly all dates through September and through the start of December.

Air Canada has slashed ticket prices on the popular route, allowing travellers to enjoy return trips from Vancouver International Airport (YVR) to the Spanish capital, Madrid, for under $800 return on numerous dates.

For example, a flight departing YVR on Thursday, Oct. 3 and returning from Adolfo Suárez Madrid–Barajas Airport (MAD) on Thursday, Oct. 10 costs $725 including taxes and fees (see slide two).

The itinerary includes one short stop in Toronto en route to Spain and a pair of them on the return in Montreal and Calgary. However, you can pay only slightly more to nix the second stop on the way home.

According to Google Flights, this price for a return trip at this time of year is considered "low," with tickets usually costing between $960 and $2,300.
