Purrfect opportunity: You can adopt a cat from the SPCA for 50% off this month

The BC SPCA hopes to match fantastic felines with their 'purrfect' partners this spring season with a new adult cat adoption promotion.

The BC SPCA hopes to match fantastic felines with their 'purrfect' partners this spring season with a new adult cat adoption promotion.

During the promotion British Columbians can adopt a furry new best friend at half the regular price. However, only adult cats are part of the deal - no kittens included.

With this in mind, the SPCA notes that older cats make great companions, and may even be preferable to kittens. Adult cats are already litter box trained, tend to be more calm and their personalities are already developed.

“We’re offering 50 per cent off adoption fees for all adult cats, which is a great incentive for people who have been thinking about adopting and it allows us to find homes more quickly for the incredible cats in our care,” says Lorie Chortyk, BC SPCA general manager of communications. “This spring we have taken an overwhelming number of cats into care through hoarding cases and other rescue situations, so our shelters are very full.”

Adopting an adult cat has many benefits, adds Chortyk. “Older cats tend to be more calm; they’ve also been litter box trained and their personalities are developed, so it is easier to find just the right match.”

The event takes place between May 25 - 31 in SPCA shelters across B.C.

Last year, the BC SPCA found new loving homes for nearly 10,000 cats and kittens throughout the province.
