Police arrest knife-wielding robber in downtown Vancouver

Vancouver police have arrested a suspect in an armed robbery Wednesday afternoon.

Vancouver police have arrested a suspect in an armed robbery Wednesday afternoon.

The suspect allegedly entered a store in the 800-block of Granville Street at around 12:30 p.m., tried to steal some merchandise and then pulled a knife.

He fled on a bike and was chased by a Vancouver police officer. The officer was able to stop the suspect near Smithe Street and Expo Boulevard and, with assistance from a passerby, took the man into custody.

The suspect complained of an injury following the arrest and was taken to hospital.

The Independent Investigations Office of B.C. (IIO), the provincial civilian-led police oversight agency, is currently investigating.

The IIO investigates all officer-related incidents that result in serious harm or death, whether or not there is any allegation of wrongdoing.
