Just over a year ago, this #ArtistAtHome was rubbing elbows with Canada’s musical elite at the JUNO Awards while celebrating his band’s nomination for Blues Album of the Year. Please meet Matthew Rogers of the blues duo, The Harpoonist & the Axe Murderer! He not only plays guitar in the band, but also drums (yes, at the same time). His band mate, Shawn Hall also pulls double duty as the band’s lead singer and harmonica player. If you’ve ever had the pleasure of seeing them play live you know almost every show ends as a sweaty affair for both them and the crowd.

When he isn’t rocking out with “Harp Axe” he keeps busy writing music for television and film, work that has garnered him nine Leo nominations and three awards. Matt also has his own recording studio and works with the many talented musicians in Vancouver. It was truly a pleasure spending a sunny afternoon at his place listening to some J.J. Cale and having some drinks. Be sure to visit The Harpoonist and the Axe Murderer website to check out their music and videos. This year they are one of the featured performers at the Vancouver Folk Festival on July 16th.
