B.C.-wide recall issued for Thailand black tiger shrimp

If you have a sensitivity to sulphites the recalled shrimp may cause a serious or life-threatening reaction

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) is recalling a brand of Thailand black tiger shrimp because an important piece of information was not declared on the label.

The recall was issued June 3 and only affects the Searay Food Inc. brand of shrimp size 31-40. The shrimp were recalled as they contain sulphites which are not declared on the label. The recall notice advises that if you have a sensitivity to sulphites, do not consume the recalled products as they may cause a serious or life-threatening reaction.

The full name of the recalled products are:

  • Thailand Black Tiger Shrimp (Raw Headless Deveined) Size 31-40
  • Thailand Black Tiger Shrimp IQF Headless Shell-On (Deveined) Size 31-40

The products were sold in British Columbia, Alberta, and Ontario but there have been no reported reactions associated with the products.

Check to see if you have the recalled products in your home. Recalled products should be thrown out or returned to the store where they were purchased.
