People laugh in a car because the radio is so funny.

Rumours of 1040 am becoming an all-comedy radio station appear to be true as branding for Funny 1040 am has appeared.

A web page has been set up on Bell Media's iHeartRADIO website for Funny 1040 am and a logo has been put up for the expected station.

In a post by freelance media journalist Steve Faguy, he notes an internal memo from Bell Media President Wade Oosterman also mentioned the change.

The 'Funny' brand is already used in two other markets, Calgary and Hamilton. In both cases it ranks near the bottom of the local ratings. In Hamilton it ranked second to last, just above the local TSN station which also was closed at the same time as TSN 1040. In Calgary it is last.

In both cases content is a variety of syndicated shows from well-known comedians along with pieces of stand-up routines.

While the @Funny1040 Twitter handle has been grabbed by someone who foresaw the rebranding coming, @Funny1040am was also recently grabbed (though hasn't seen any activity).

On Bell Media's website they suggest those who advertise with Funny will "connect with affluent, socially active adults through comedy."

TSN 1040 shuttered suddenly yesterday, leaving many listeners and members of the sports community angry.
