Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) has announced that the Capilano River Hatchery in North Vancouver will be shutting on Saturdays and Sundays, starting the weekend of Oct. 31.

“The Capilano River Hatchery in North Vancouver has experienced a steep increase in visitors, which has become unsustainable,” reads a DFO news release sent out Thursday.

“For the safety of staff and visitors and in an effort to prevent the spread of COVID-19, the hatchery will now be closed on Saturdays and Sundays.”

The outdoor interpretive centre at Capilano Hatchery will remain open to the public Monday to Friday between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m.

Staff will continue to monitor the situation and adjust as needed, according to DFO.
