Team South Korea has won the 28th Honda Celebration of Light fireworks competition based on its performance on Saturday, August 4.

South Korea was represented by Daehan Fireworks Company and beat Sweden's Unique Pyrotechnics and South Africa's Fireworks for Africa.

Judges were impressed by Team South Korea's timing and sync, size of the show and novel effects in its pyrotechnics display.

“Congratulations to Team South Korea on their win at the 2018 Honda Celebration of Light, the intense pyrotechnic show they put on over English Bay entertained the crowd and left us all wanting more," says Vancouver city councillor and competition head judge Raymond Louie.

The People's Choice winner is determined by a public vote through the official Honda Celebration of Light Festival app and will be announced later today.

This year's theme was "love" and 1.2 million people came out to watch the display from the beaches of English Bay, Second Beach and Vanier Park.

Paul Tilbury and Heather Owen, co-chairs of the Vancouver Fireworks Festival Society congratulated Team South Korea and thanked everyone that made this year's festival possible.

Dates for the 2019 Honda Celebration of Light will be announced in the fall.
