Vancouver firefighters are battling a blaze in the 2400 block of Main Street that has closed traffic to the area.

In a series of tweets, Vancouver Fire and Rescue shared images of the fire and smoke billowing out from the buildings. There are also multiple fire trucks in the area.

Captain Jonathan Gormick, Public Information Officer for the Vancouver Fire and Rescue, tells Vancouver Is Awesome in a phone interview that a residential building in the 2400 block of Main Street caught fire this morning. However, firefighters have been unable to enter the building due to fire and smoke, and they do not know if anyone is inside.

Right now, firefighters are working to prevent the blaze from spreading to neighbouring buildings. A third fire alarm was also activated.

Main Street is closed northbound from Broadway to 7th, and Broadway is closed eastbound and westbound from Kingsway to Quebec. Drivers should avoid the area.

Due to the smoke, people with respiratory issues should avoid the area or remain indoors with windows closed.
