Any indoor gyms and fitness facilities still open in the Fraser Health region have been ordered to close immediately to stop the spread of COVID-19.

The order, which applies to weight training, gymnastics and martial arts gyms, yoga and dance studios, and other such facilities, was issued by Fraser Health chief medical officer, Dr. Martin Lavoie.

Lavoie has determined the use of such facilities can promote the transmission of COVID-19, increasing the risk of further spread of the virus in communities, according to a Fraser Health press release Wednesday, April 15.

The order is temporary, expiring on May 31, but is subject to change by Lavoie.

Until they are allowed to re-open, Fraser Health is recommending gyms and yoga studios move their classes online.

You can find information about COVID-19 in the Fraser Health Authority here.
