Millions of Canadians have lost their jobs, had their hours reduced, or been temporarily laid off during the COVID-19 pandemic. However, several jobs are in high demand.

If you’re looking for work right now, some critical jobs are experiencing a surge during the global crisis.

According to the Canadian job website Indeed, job postings are trending back towards pre-crisis levels, suggesting a better outlook for job seekers at the start of the new year.

But which Vancouver jobs are job seekers most interested in right now?

Indeed analyzed job seeker behaviour in January 2021 against behaviour from February 2020--specifically clicks on jobs in Vancouver--and found that job seekers are increasingly interested in 15 roles and identified a few key trends.

New trends in the job market

One of the major trends Indeed noticed was the shift to e-commerce and increased demand for the delivery of goods, which has led to increased interest in Warehouse worker and Development operations engineer jobs. Companies need help ramping up their e-commerce capabilities, as well as debugging and troubleshooting existing platforms.

With COVID-19 keeping everyone indoors, Canadians are spending more time online. As such, software development job postings are showing strong momentum. Indeed finds that job seekers in Vancouver are increasingly clicking on tech-related roles such as Full stack developer, Data scientist and Software engineer.

Clicks on Youth worker and Support worker roles are also up as the city grapples with the impact the pandemic has had on vulnerable populations.
