A "known drug user" unwittingly led police to a pair of suspected drug dealers last week, according to police.
Last Thursday, at about 11 a.m., Burnaby RCMP officers patrolling in the Metrotown area “observed a known drug user who appeared to be looking to buy drugs” near Wilson Avenue and Kingsway, according to a police press release.
Officers watched the woman after she was joined by an associate near a vehicle, police said.
The officers initiated a “traffic stop” on the vehicle and found clear evidence of drug trafficking, according to police.
The female driver and male passenger were arrested for possession of a controlled substance for the purposes of trafficking.
A search of them and their vehicle turned up nearly 100 prepackaged baggies of suspected cocaine, methamphetamine, heroin and fentanyl, ready for sale on the streets, according to police.
Officers also seized cell phones, $335 in cash, a knife, drug paraphernalia and the vehicle itself.
The male passenger now faces charges of possession for the purpose of trafficking, according to police.
“These community response team officers patrol our streets every day and have extensive knowledge of the city,” Burnaby RCMP Cpl. Mike Kalanj said in a press release. “With this expertise, they continue to remove drugs from our community and hold suspected drug dealers accountable for their actions.”
