A man who was about to be arrested for alleged fraud made things much worse for himself when he tried to flee the scene.

He and his friend went to go pick up food after ordering online; when they arrived at the restaurant they were greeted by police, according to a release from the Vancouver Police Department.

Staff at the restaurant had noticed the credit card used was flagged and called the police, so they were prepared for the two men when they arrived.

The two men were not prepared for the police when they pulled up.

The passenger got out of the car and was arrested, but the driver decided on a different plan and tried to flee the scene, put the car in reverse, and struck two officers while pulling out.

"Additional officers responded, and the driver was arrested nearby moments later, after abandoning his car and trying to run away," states the VPD.

The two officers were taken to hospital for treatment and have since been released, having suffered soft tissue damage.

The man was arrested on fraud charges as well as two counts of assaulting a police officer and one dangerous operation of a conveyance causing bodily harm count.
