A man has been sentenced to two years in jail after pleading guilty to committing a violent robbery in Vancouver last year.

According to Vancouver Police, 45-year-old Dillon Gosnell was the suspect involved in the incident that took place at a convenience store near Beach Avenue and Hornby Street last October.

In a release issued Thursday, police say Gosnell entered the store, located at 888 Mini Market, and "immediately began stabbing the store clerk in the arm in an attempt to rob the store."

The store clerk, a 61-year-old Vancouver man, reportedly suffered serious injuries as a result.

Police say criminal charges have now been approved by Crown counsel following "an extensive" investigation into the assault by Vancouver Police.

According to public court documents, Gosnell was deemed guilty of one count of robbery by a Vancouver Provincial Court on July 24 of this year.
