Six new bike racks from the City of Vancouver’s Bike Rack Design Contest will brighten up Stamps Landing.

The city has invited residents to celebrate the installation at the South False Creek Seawall Thursday, Aug. 15.

Last year, VIVA Vancouver put out a call for fun and functional bike rack designs that would hold two bikes upright and reflect Vancouver in a creative and original way.

Over 450 entries were received and 30 designs were shortlisted. After much deliberation, community consultation and judgment by a panel, it was finally narrowed down to six designs last August.

The colourful designs feature a North Shore mountain, a guard bird, a petal rack, a living leaf, Definitely Raining (a rain drop) and Chickadee-dee-dee (a bird.)

The designs have been added to the City’s street furniture catalogue and will be installed at locations around the City where new racks are needed.

Last year, Margaret Wittgens, Director of Street Use, said each of the designs "represents something special about Vancouver and cycling, and we look forward to seeing them being enjoyed by the public.”

The event takes place at Stamps Landing, South False Creek Seawall on Thursday Aug . 15 from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. The afternoon will include trivia and prizes.
