Queen's Park, New Westminster

Nicholson Road is an ongoing photo project aimed at sharing and celebrating the different communities in Metro Vancouver. Each week Vancouver Is Awesome will be featuring an image from the previous week, shot in one of the many 'hoods around town in order to draw your attention a little bit outside of the hyper-focus that we usually have on the City of Vancouver.

Queen's Park, New Westminster

While you're correct thinking that Queen's Park is the name of a park in New West, this isn't a view from the park. It's a view from the lower end of the Queen's Park neighbourhood, which borders the park on the southwest side. It's also home to a pile of familiar street names, including Oak Street, Pine Street, Arbutus Street, Granville Street, Hastings Street, and even a Vancouver Street just to make sure you're sufficiently confused!

So why this photo? Why not? The topography of the region is one of the many reasons I love Metro Van. Hills here and there provide awesome views through town/across town, and when those mountains east of Chilliwack pop-up in the distance on an otherwise dreary morning, that's just the icing on the cake. With the extra clutter of autumn colours in the trees and sky, the Pattullo and Skybridge, the towers of Whalley in the distance, and the various apartment buildings further down the hill in Downtown New West, I just can't stop looking at this one.

Happy Autumn, Metro Van!
