On Aug, 1, around 4:10 p.m. a woman used her credit card for a purchase at the Caulfeild Safeway, not noticing a man standing nearby and watching her enter her PIN. When she left, the man approached her and told her she’d dropped a $5 bill. Using old-school sleight of hand, he reached out and put a $5 bill in her purse but helped himself to her credit card while he was in there.

The woman eventually realized her card had gone missing and reported it to her bank but not before the suspect made a number of unauthorized purchases.

Surveillance images from inside the grocery store show the suspect’s face.

Anyone with information about the theft and fraud or the suspect is asked to contact West Vancouver police or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477. If the suspect is charged, informants are eligible for a reward of up to $2,000 from Crime Stoppers.
