Vancouver's fifth murder of the year happened last night in Coal Harbour.

The incident happened around 8:30 p.m. on April 17; police received reports of gunfire near Cardero's restaurant at Coal Harbour Quay and Cardero Street.

One man was pronounced dead at the scene after efforts to revive him weren't successful. The Vancouver Police Department (VPD) attended, along with fire and ambulance crews, according to a press release from the police.

Police believe it was a targeted shooting and that there's no ongoing danger to the public.

"Although this shooting was targeted, we are very concerned about the potential impact on the public of an incident like this," says Cst. Tania Visintin, in the release. "This happened in a busy spot on a nice evening and an innocent person could have gotten hurt.

No arrests have been made in the case. Police did not include any description of any suspects. Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the VPD Homicide Unit at 604-717-2500 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-8477.
