Pedestrian dies after being struck by vehicle in East Vancouver

A 33-year-old Vancouver man was struck and killed Wednesday evening while crossing the street near East 49th Avenue and Tyne Street.

The man was hit by a Suzuki station wagon shortly after 6 p.m. According to police, the driver was traveling east on 49th Avenue when it appears the pedestrian ran into the street and was struck.

Witnesses stopped and provided medical assistance until police and paramedics arrived, however the pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver, a 25-year-old Vancouver man, stopped after the collision and is cooperating with police.

This is the city’s sixth pedestrian fatality of the year.
