Vancouver police have a suspect and are recommending charges following an incident Sunday.

That morning a 73-year-old man with a cane was standing reading a menu outside a shelter near the intersection of Helmcken and Seymour streets. While he was reading another man shoved the senior to the ground. Staff at the shelter saw the incident and called police, according to the Vancouver Police Department (VPD).

The fall was hard and left the senior with injuries on his hand, though police can't release how severe they were.

Police were able to find the suspect nearby, a 43-year-old man known to police. As he had a history of violence back-up was called and the man was eventually taken into custody. When taken into custody police found he was carrying a credit card that didn't belong to him.

"Charges were recommended for assault, resisting arrest, and possession of credit card data. The suspect also had two outstanding arrest warrants," state the VPD.

Cst. Tania Visintin notes that while the suspect may be charged with resisting arrest, there were no injuries during the arrest.
